Race Against the Machine: Andrew McAfee at TEDxBoston (Video)

Here's a robot video that I found interesting:

"We ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to technology's impact on the labor force." Automation redefined blue collar employment and reshaped a global economy. Now, technology is replacing higher skilled jobs by augmenting human brainpower the way steam engines augmented human labor. Andrew McAfee braces us for a fundamental transformation in the future of work. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  1. Instead of outlawing drugs I’m starting to think that some technology should be outlawed. Yes, technology can help us, but it can also do more harm than good. Especially when it takes away more jobs than it produces. Maybe there should be a technology that creates free food, shelter, clothing, and medical care for every person that is put (and kept) out of work by a new technilogy.
