IREX 2011: Connecting With Robots

It's always interesting to see how quickly and naturally people form some attachment with a robot without thinking about it consciously. In this particular case, the salesman on the right was explaining about the robot's compliance - how it can respond naturally to external pressure without resisting or pushing back. The prospective customer tested it by holding on to the end of the robot arm and moving it around. Then, for almost five minutes, he continued to hold on to the robot arm as if it was a child while talking to the salesman.
