Michael Overstreet, a multiple medal winner at RoboGames for the past few years, managed to capture some of the setup testing for the Japanese Mech Warfare robots remotely controlled from Japan.

After three days of intense RoboGames 2011 action, the 3:3 robot soccer competition came down to the US vs. Japan in the match to determine who would go home with the gold medal.

One of the original intentions behind the formation of RoboGames was David Calkins' strong belief that if robot builders and fans from all different markets and technologies got together then a lot of cross-pollination and idea exchange would naturally take place.
For example, this afternoon when I was talking robotics with Markus Primbs of CustoBots.com, he mentioned that he uses "tire condoms" to make his line follower robots more efficient.
That immediately drew my attention, and I asked him to explain in more detail. Hence the video clip above.
RoboGames 2011 – Micromouse Robot 1st Place Captured by Japan (Video)

The micromouse competition requires that the robot search a 16x16 maze grid, find the shortest path, then do speed runs to determine its fastest time.
At RoboGames 2011, the PiCo Classic micromouse robot, entered by RT Corp (Japan) turned in consistent 20 second run times to capture the Gold Medal.
