Hoi Hoi San comes to life, robot-style (Video)

During the Wonderful Robot Carnival, Zaki-san showed us a pretty amazing little robot based on Hoi Hoi San. He's managed to bring the cute little figure, which isn't really "little" - it's tiny, to life.
His Hoi Hoi San robot features eight degrees of freedom, a micro-controller board hidden under the hairdo, and operates without being directly connected to the computer. The robot's body is a commonly available figure (at least here in Japan) that sells for under $40.
Zaki-san modified both arms, the waist, and the legs adding servos so that the robot can move around pretty well. He had to extend the figure's footprints to keep it balanced while moving, and did it with transparent plastic - a very nice touch.

Of course, it can't right itself if it falls down, and wouldn't do very well in ROBO-ONE style combat, but it does move fairly realistically.
Although he doesn't go through the build in a lot of detail on his “HoiHoi-ism” website, you can get a general idea from the photos, then go through the older posts on his blog.
