MOTOMAN robot series gets more flexible, and looks more human-like (Video)

The latest MOTOMAN series of robots from Yaskawa shown off at IREX 2009 here last week feature additional degrees of freedom that allow them to tackle work physically much closer to the robots body than previous generations. The robot series has also been enhanced by adding color recognition to its designed-in video part recognition and orientation capability.

You’ll also notice in the video below that Japanese robot makers have become much more business savvy, to the point that they are now designing the robots camera mounting and pan/tilt mechanism to resemble a human being. It’s a bit of marketing flair and an appeal to the customers that we haven’t seen in the past.
