Gundam battle revives Rockem Sockem Robots (Video)
Fans of the Rockem Sockem Robots game, released by Marx Toys in 1964, will immediately recall the game’s rallying cry to “Knock his block off!” And they will instantly understand why last week’s match between GAT and Automo 06 (Waka) almost had us rolling on the floor laughing with memories of that old game.
The match was a semi-final in the 2nd Sunrise Hero Robot Battle competition held during the International Robot Exhibition (IREX) 2009, and also includes one of the longest, most drawn out 10?counts we’ve ever seen.
Sunrise, for those who may not be familar with Japanese animation, is famous for producing movies featuring Gundam and other fighting robots. The competition is co-sponsored by the ROBO-ONE organization, Loxley Co., and Sunrise. All the competitors have to be designed emulating the style and design of one of the Sunrise characters.
