ROBO-ONE 14: OmniZero.7 Robot Gets Down And Boogies (Video)

While it may not have seemed startling to some casual observers, Maeda-san's latest humanoid robot creation, OmniZero.7 put on a impressive show during Saturday's Demonstration phase of ROBO-ONE 14 held concurrently with Robo-Japan 2008.

Maeda's designs never fail to wow the judges and delight the crowds of fans, and ROBO-ONE 14 was no exception. The first day's competition is primarily a test of the robot designer's skill and creativity. They have to put on a two minute demonstration with the robot operating completely autonomously. And, they have to deal real-time with any unexpected problems or robot failures, all while simultaneously explaining the robots features and performance to the panel of expert judges.

Only the very top scoring robots are allowed to return for the more well known one on one combat in the ROBO-ONE ring. The OmniZero series robots have always scored towards the top, and have often won first place in the Demonstrations. For ROBO-ONE 14, OmniZero.7 bagged 411 points (see video below), and was only barely edged out by King Kizer who scored 415 points.

However, during the final matches, OmniZero.7 got his revenge by beating King Kizer in the ring, and went on to win the overall ROBO-ONE championship. As far as we can recall it's the first time for OmniZero to take home the championship belt.

  1. hooray!
Can’t wait until maeda makes the big robots move like the small ones, to put it plainly

  2. Freakin’ amazing! I know the sole of each foot must fit inside of a 110mm circle to qualify for ROBO-ONE… what’s the footprint of OmniZero.7′s pad? Do the rules differ due to weight class? The feet look tiny and it’s incredible how capable these larger bots are.
