Play is Big BusinessAccording to a surprising Playthings news report posted today, worldwide toy market sales, excluding video games, exceeded USD$71.96 billion during 2007, which represents a 5 percent increase over the market's 2006 performance.
The Playthings article, which is based on NPD's Global Toy Trends and Forecasts report, attributes significant growth to toy sale gains in the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) markets which increased from 8.8% of the worldwide totals in 2006 to 11.2% for 2007. Even taking the current global economic concerns into account, worldwide toy sales are expected to exceed $86.3 billion by 2010.
