I'm not crazy about the big protrusion sticking out of the chest. Does it serve some function (protecting the bot when it falls forward maybe)? Or is it just decoration?

Hi Joe,
No, it doesn't serve any particular practical purpose, though the battery pack is right behind it. The overall style is modeled on some old Japanese robots, and they may have drawn their inspiration from the 50's and 60's US cars with huge tailfins and massive grillwork.
