Robots Join Japanese New Year Celebration (Video)
The Japanese have many traditions to celebrate the new year. There are special new years foods to enjoy, sending and receiving special new years postcards, playing traditional new years games, writing haiku and renga poetry, making the first pilgrimage of the year to a local temple or shrine, and making (and eating) mochi - boiled and pounded rice dumplings.
As we mentioned in an earlier post, the staff at Kondo RoboSpot in Akihabara staged a robot mochi pounding ceremony yesterday.We've included a short video clip below.
Although it doesn't sound that delicious, new years mochi is one of our personal favorites. We always look forward to enjoying it with our friends this time of year.
