ROBO-ONE 12: It Happens to the Best of Us

Robot
It never fails. You can practice, practice, practice all you want, but when the time comes and you have to go on stage in front of thousands of people and a panel of judges, something is bound to go wrong.

If it's a human being, then stage fright is the most likely excuse. But, what if it happens to be a robot? During ROBO-ONE 12 last month at Takamatsu, quite a few of the robots failed to perform the theme challenge - playing catch - to the full extent they were capable.

Was it robot stage fright, or were the operators just nervous and under intense pressure? We'll probably never know exactly. Fortunately one participant managed to record their robots totally amazing intended performance (see video below).

There is no doubt in our mind that this performance, had it gone off as planed, would have wowed the crowd and earned very high marks from the judges. Probably high enough to put the robot into the top category that qualified for the final day's bouts.

Very, very impressive. Congratulations to the builder, even if they didn't make it into the finals.
