Cool Looking Robot Body Shells
One of the real attractions of the Manoi AT01 humanoid robot is its customizable body shells that make some of the other kits look like walking coat hangers. Of course, some builders have developed custom shells or 'body armor' for their kits and unique designs.
Yesterday at the Kondo KHR 3rd Anniversary event we were able to get some interesting close up photos of several body shells for the KHR-2HV robot. None of them are currently on the market outside of Japan, but at least you can get the general idea, and a feeling of what's possible.
The Formula design, originally developed by Posieden for the older KHR-1 robot, seems to work pretty well with the newer kits, especially the KHR-2HV.
You can see how the hand plate mounts at the end of the robots arms using the same screws that was used to attach rougher sheet metal hands.
The Formula head appears to work with the KHR-2HV, and would probably work okay with the KHR-1HV as well.
It's interesting, at least to us, that they decided to use the toe pieces, but didn't do anything about the robots feet/soles.
This yellow monster project was presented by Tsukumo - one of the biggest robot kit suppliers in the Tokyo area. There was no word on availability or cost at this time.
You really have to see this one in person since it's hard to do it justice while reporting. It is totally awesome.
