Really Remote Robot Control
We're usually concerned about controlling robots at our feet, across the room, or somewhere in outer space, but a lot of applications require fast, stable, extremely reliable communication and control of a robot in large facilities or even outdoors patrolling the back forty.
Howard at Surveyor Robotics reports that their communication vendor of choice for the SRV-1 wireless mobile robot, MaxStream, has come out with a new long distance bridge that can extend the effective ZigBee communication range up to a whopping 40 miles. Our robots, running at full speed on their tiny little biped legs would run out of battery long before the 1 mile mark (probably around 100 yards or less), but if you have an application that requires control and communication over a large distance, then this might be just the ticket.
