Toy Maker To Introduce Low Cost Bipedal Robot

According to an article from the Fuji Sankei Business Eye, Takara Tomy (the merged toy company) will be introducing a new high performance bipedal humanoid robot next spring in Japan. The new robot has 17 degrees of freedom, and stands 20 cm. tall, which makes it roughly the same size as a ROBO-ONE J robot. The company's target market price is around 40,000 yen (approx. USD$370). The article makes several comparisons between the Takara Tomy design and other existing robots that sell for well over twice the price. But, it also seems to categorize the new robot as a toy whose primary use will be for a child's hobby, though it can also be used by adults and as a security robot using a built-in camera that can be accessed via a cell phone. [via - the Robot-Fan.net blog]
