We haven’t reached the point yet where a robot will be named the Time Magazine Man of the Year, but we’re getting closer and closer. Robots are getting more and more press coverage. The January issue of Wired Magazine even has a feature article titled “The 50 Best Robots Ever.”
Like most articles of this type, the Wired Best 50 selection is more pop-science than rigorous analysis, but it is fun and will certainly stimulate discussion and awareness of robots. The list includes a whole laundry list of robots including Kitt the talking car from the Knight Rider television series, HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Roomba, AIBO, Optimus Prime, the Tin Woodman from the Wizard of Oz, Gort, and even Albert Hubo – the Korean robot with the head of Albert Einstein.
And which robot did they pick as the #1 best robot of all time?
Stanley – the Stanford University autonomous vehicle.
