Robots Enter The Mainstream
Takashimaya, one of Japan’s largest department stores, just finished refurbishing the Gifu store near Nagoya. As a part of the redesign, they have added a robot section along side the bookstore.
A good portion of the 1,650 bookstore floorspace has been devoted to working robots, kits, and books on robotics. This represents a significant shift in the marketing of hobby and personal robotics, moving them away from speciality stores like the Akihabara electronics district in Tokyo, and into mainstream department stores.
